Updated 2026-05-30. Numbers and descriptions here follow the published literature rather than marketing material.
The peptide portion consists of three amino acids: glycine, histidine and lysine. Copper(II) coordinates through the imidazole nitrogen of histidine, the alpha-amino group of glycine and a deprotonated amide nitrogen of the backbone, producing a roughly square-planar geometry. This arrangement gives the complex its characteristic blue-to-violet colour and helps it resist dissociation in water. Reported stability constants are high, although values differ between studies because of differences in ionic strength and measurement method.
The International Nomenclature of Cosmetic Ingredients lists the substance as copper tripeptide-1, the name that appears on most topical product labels. Related designations include copper peptide and GHK-Cu, and the hyphenated form is common in research literature. In cosmetics the material is regulated as an ingredient rather than as a drug, so products may reach the market without evidence of the effects claimed for them. Whether those effects are clinically meaningful is an open question, since most supportive data come from laboratory work and small trials.
GHK-Cu is the copper complex of the tripeptide glycyl-L-histidyl-L-lysine, a short sequence found naturally in human plasma, saliva and urine. Loren Pickart reported the isolation of the free peptide in 1973 while studying factors that influenced the growth of aged liver cells in culture. The peptide was later shown to bind copper(II) with high affinity, and the metal-bound form became the focus of most subsequent research. Its concentration in circulation declines markedly with age, a pattern that is well documented, though the physiological consequences of that decline remain debated.
Quality specifications for research material commonly state peptide purity, copper stoichiometry, counter-ion identity, and residual water content. Frequent counter-ions include acetate and trifluoroacetate, which differ in mass and in their effect on solubility and handling. Whether batch-to-batch differences in reported responses trace to these parameters or to assay conditions remains an open question, since published comparisons rarely control for all of them at once. Independent verification therefore normally pairs a purity measurement with an elemental copper measurement on the same lot.
Practical handling notes centre on limiting exposure to water, oxygen, and repeated temperature cycling. Weighed powder is often equilibrated to room temperature before opening to avoid condensation on the solid. Working solutions are typically divided into single-use aliquots and frozen rather than stored refrigerated for long periods. Reported shelf lives vary widely between laboratories, and no single set of conditions is universally treated as a reference standard, which complicates direct comparison of published stability figures.
Solutions of GHK-Cu respond strongly to pH, redox conditions, and the presence of competing chelators such as EDTA. Below roughly pH 4 the copper tends to dissociate, because the amide nitrogen donors become protonated and can no longer coordinate. Strongly alkaline conditions instead favour hydrolysis and precipitation of copper hydroxide. Dissolved oxygen and light accelerate breakdown of the peptide backbone, and the copper released during that process can catalyse further oxidation, so dry, cold, dark storage is the usual recommendation.

Aqueous GHK-Cu solutions are less stable than the dry powder. Light, dissolved oxygen and elevated temperature all accelerate loss of the intact complex, and the main observable changes are fading of the blue colour and the appearance of peptide fragments. Acidic conditions protonate the histidine imidazole and weaken copper binding, while strongly alkaline conditions promote hydrolysis of the peptide backbone. Because several degradation routes operate at once, a single shelf-life figure does not describe all storage conditions.
Solid material is typically kept as a lyophilised powder in a sealed, light-protected container at minus 20 degrees Celsius, with desiccant where humidity is high. Working solutions are often prepared fresh, aliquoted and frozen to avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles. Glassware and buffers are checked for trace metal contamination, since other transition metals can displace copper. Records of lot number, reconstitution date and storage temperature help trace unexpected colour changes. Blue colour itself is not a reliable purity test, because partly degraded solutions can remain visibly coloured.
Identity and purity are normally checked by reversed-phase high-performance liquid chromatography, often coupled to mass spectrometry. The peptide absorbs in the ultraviolet region, and the copper complex also shows a broad visible absorption band that can be followed spectroscopically. Copper content is measured separately, for example by inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry or atomic absorption spectroscopy, because the peptide assay alone does not confirm how much metal is bound. Purity figures therefore need a stated basis: peptide peak area, copper content, or both.
The peptide sequence places a histidine in the middle, and this residue dominates metal binding. Copper(II) coordinates through the imidazole nitrogen of histidine and the terminal amino group, forming a stable chelate ring system. Loss of the copper ion leaves the free tripeptide, which has different solubility and reactivity. This structural detail matters because assays that measure only the peptide backbone can miss whether copper is still bound to it.
Several names circulate for the same material, which complicates literature searches. Cosmetic ingredient lists often use copper tripeptide-1, while older biochemistry papers use glycyl-L-histidyl-lysine or its abbreviation GHK. The copper complex is sometimes written as GHK-Cu(II) to make the oxidation state explicit. Terminology is not fully standardized, so matching a compound across sources requires attention to the exact sequence, the counterion, and the stated copper content. Reviews that compare studies must account for these naming differences before drawing conclusions.
Proposed mechanisms for copper peptide activity center on delivery of copper ions to cells and on peptide fragments acting as signaling molecules. Copper is a cofactor for enzymes involved in collagen cross-linking and antioxidant defense, and the peptide may improve its availability at target sites. Separately, the tripeptide and its breakdown products have been reported to influence gene expression in cultured fibroblasts. Much of this evidence comes from laboratory cell cultures and animal models rather than controlled human trials. The relative contribution of the copper ion and the peptide sequence is therefore not fully settled.
Stability depends on temperature, light exposure, moisture, and the presence of oxidizing or reducing agents. Solid material held dry and protected from light is generally more stable than aqueous solutions, which can undergo gradual degradation. Recommended storage in much of the literature is a freezer at around minus twenty degrees Celsius for long-term retention, with working aliquots kept cold and shielded from light. Repeated freeze-thaw cycles and alkaline pH are commonly noted as factors that accelerate loss of the intact complex, though exact degradation rates vary.
Analytical confirmation usually combines a separation method with a copper-specific measurement. Liquid chromatography or mass spectrometry establishes peptide identity and purity, while an elemental measurement quantifies the metal content. A frequent misconception is that any blue solution contains an intact copper peptide complex; color alone does not confirm structure, because free copper salts and degraded mixtures can also appear colored. Literature on efficacy is mixed, with in vitro findings often more dramatic than human evidence, and reviews note small sample sizes and short follow-up. Open questions include optimal concentration, skin penetration, and long-term effects.
=== Metabolome atlas of the aging mouse brain === In 2021, the first brain metabolome atlas of the mouse brain – and of an animal (a mammal) across different life stages – was released online. The data differentiates by brain regions and the metabolic changes could be "mapped to existing gene and protein brain atlases".
==== The Buddha's discovery of conditionality ==== Regarding the arising of suffering, SN 12.10 discusses how before the Buddha's awakening, he searched for the escape from suffering as follows: "when what exists is there old age and death? What is a condition for old age and death?", discovering the chain of conditions as expressed in the twelve nidanas and other lists. MN 26 also reports that after the Buddha's awakening, he considered that dependent origination was one of the two principles which were "profound (gambhira), difficult to see, difficult to understand, peaceful, sublime, beyond the scope of mere reasoning (atakkāvacara), subtle." The other principle which is profound and difficult to see is said to be Nirvana, "the stopping, or transcending, of conditioned co-arising" (Harvey). In the Mahānidānasutta (DN 15) the Buddha states that dependent origination is "deep and appears deep", and that it is "because of not understanding and not penetrating this teaching" that people become "tangled like a ball of string" in views (diṭṭhis), samsara, rebirth and suffering. SN 12.70 and its counterpart SA 347 state that "knowledge of Dhamma-stability" (dhamma-tthiti-ñānam) comes first, then comes knowledge of nirvana (nibbane-ñānam). However, while the process which leads to nirvāna is conditioned, nirvāna itself is called "unborn, unbecome, unmade, unconstructed" (Ud. 80–1). The Milinda Panha compares to how a mountain is not dependent on the path that leads to it (Miln. 269)". According to Harvey, since it is "not co-arisen (asamuppana) (It.
=== Seizures === Levetiracetam is an anti-epileptic drug than can be used to treat partial and generalized seizures. Levetiracetam inhibits P/Q channel-mediated glutamate release and decreases the excitatory post synaptic currents of both AMPA and NMDA receptors in the hippocampus, specifically the dentate gyrus, which is known to propagate seizure activities. The inhibition of glutamate release results in an anti-epileptic response in patients because it decreases the excitatory postsynaptic current. There are many different types of calcium channels, so to prove that the P/Q type calcium channels are directly involved, a P/Q type voltage gated calcium channel inhibitor, omega-agatoxin TK, was used to block the channel. When blocked, patients no longer benefited from the anti-epileptic effects from the drugs. When blockers for L type and N type calcium channels were used, the effects of Levetiracetam were still seen. This is strong evidence that the P/Q type calcium channels are involved in the Levetiracetam treatment which allow for relief from seizures.

Fernández had in April 2023 announced that he, despite being eligible for a second, would not seek re-election. The Lula government openly supported the candidacy of governing coalition Sergio Massa, defeated in the second round by the libertarian Javier Milei, who during the campaign referred to Lula as "communist" and "corrupt". Lula did not call to congratulate Milei, limiting himself to publishing a protocol message on social media in which the Milei's name was absent. The minister of the Secretariat of Social Communication, Paulo Pimenta, suggested that only after Milei "calls to apologize" would there be dialogue between him and Lula. Days after the victory, Milei sent a letter to Lula, received by Mauro Vieira, in which Milei deviated from his harsh campaign rhetoric and invited Lula to his inauguration. Despite this, Lula did not participate, acting in the same way as Bolsonaro in 2019, who campaigned against Fernández, sending diplomat Mauro Vieira.

Because of imperial expansion, immigration, and trading, ingredients and cooking techniques from other cultures have been integrated into Chinese cuisines over time and Chinese culinary influences have spread worldwide. There are numerous regional, religious, and ethnic styles of Chinese cuisine found within China and abroad. Chinese cuisine is highly diverse and most frequently categorised into provincial divisions, although these province-level classifications consist of many more styles within themselves. During the Qing dynasty, the most praised Four Great Traditions in Chinese cuisine were Chuan, Lu, Yue, and Huaiyang, representing cuisines of West, North, South, and East China, respectively. For example, in Northern China, the dry, temperate climate makes it suitable for the cultivation of wheat, millet and other grains. As such, noodles, porridge and bread are dietary staples. In 1980, a modern grouping from Chinese journalist Wang Shaoquan's article published in the People's Daily newspaper identified the Eight Cuisines of China as Anhui (徽菜; Huīcài), Guangdong (粵菜; Yuècài), Fujian (閩菜; Mǐncài), Hunan (湘菜; Xiāngcài), Jiangsu (蘇菜; Sūcài), Shandong (魯菜; Lǔcài), Sichuan (川菜; Chuāncài), and Zhejiang (浙菜; Zhècài).

==== Dextromethorphan ==== Dextromethorphan/bupropion, sold under the brand name Auvelity, is a combination medication approved by the US FDA in 2022 for the treatment of major depressive disorder (MDD) in adults. The formulation pairs dextromethorphan, an N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) receptor antagonist and sigma-1 receptor agonist, with bupropion, a norepinephrine-dopamine reuptake inhibitor that also functions as a CYP2D6 enzyme inhibitor. Bupropion is included in the combination to slow the metabolism of dextromethorphan by inhibiting CYP2D6, thereby increasing its bioavailability and allowing dextromethorphan's potential antidepressant effects to be achieved. While the precise mechanism of action in treating depression is not fully understood, it is hypothesized that the medication works by modulating glutamate signaling and influencing other neurotransmitter systems.
The mine chose to send all ore to the crusher and to concentrate on copper production due to the rising price of copper on the world market. The price of natural untreated Sleeping Beauty turquoise has risen dramatically since the mine's closing. The Kingman Mine as of 2015 still operates alongside a copper mine outside of the city. Other mines include the Blue Bird mine, Castle Dome, and Ithaca Peak, but they are mostly inactive due to the high cost of operations and federal regulations. The Phelps Dodge Lavender Pit mine at Bisbee ceased operations in 1974 and never had a turquoise contractor. All Bisbee turquoise was "lunch pail" mined. It came out of the copper ore mine in miners' lunch pails. Morenci and Turquoise Peak are either inactive or depleted. Nevada is the country's other major producer, with more than 120 mines which have yielded significant quantities of turquoise. Unlike elsewhere in the US, most Nevada mines have been worked primarily for their gem turquoise and very little has been recovered as a byproduct of other mining operations. Nevada turquoise is found as nuggets, fracture fillings and in breccias as the cement filling interstices between fragments. Because of the geology of the Nevada deposits, a majority of the material produced is hard and dense, being of sufficient quality that no treatment or enhancement is required. While nearly every county in the state has yielded some turquoise, the chief producers are in Lander and Esmeralda counties.
==== Boronate affinity chromatography ==== Boronate affinity chromatography consists of using boronic acid or boronates to elute and quantify amounts of glycoproteins. Clinical adaptations have applied this type of chromatography for use in determining long term assessment of diabetic patients through analysis of their glycated hemoglobin.
The most complex RPR synthesized by that point was called 24-3, which was newly capable of polymerizing the sequences of a substantial variety of nucleotide sequences and navigating through complex secondary structures of RNA substrates inaccessible to previous ribozymes. In fact, this experiment was the first to use a ribozyme to synthesize a tRNA molecule. Starting with the 24-3 ribozyme, Tjhung et al. applied another fourteen rounds of selection to obtain an RNA polymerase ribozyme by in vitro evolution termed '38-6' that has an unprecedented level of activity in copying complex RNA molecules. However, this ribozyme is unable to copy itself and its RNA products have a high mutation rate. In a subsequent study, the researchers began with the 38-6 ribozyme and applied another 14 rounds of selection to generate the '52-2' ribozyme, which compared to 38-6, was again many times more active and could begin generating detectable and functional levels of the class I ligase, although it was still limited in its fidelity and functionality in comparison to copying of the same template by proteins such as the T7 RNA polymerase. An RPR called t5(+1) adds triplet nucleotides at a time instead of just one nucleotide at a time. This heterodimeric RPR can navigate secondary structures inaccessible to 24-3, including hairpins. In the initial pool of RNA variants derived only from a previously synthesized RPR known as the Z RPR, two sequences separately emerged and evolved to be mutualistically dependent on each other.

It is a complex of a three-amino-acid peptide, glycine, histidine and lysine, bound to a single copper(II) ion. The metal is held mainly by the histidine side chain and the peptide backbone. Most commercial material is supplied as an acetate salt rather than as the free complex.
The free peptide was reported in 1973 by Loren Pickart, who isolated it from human plasma. Its copper-binding behaviour was characterised over the following years. The metal-bound form has been the subject of most later research.
Yes. Copper tripeptide-1 is the name used in cosmetic ingredient labelling, while GHK-Cu is the shorthand found in the scientific literature. Both refer to the same peptide-copper complex, and the two terms are interchangeable in most technical documents.
Inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry or atomic absorption spectroscopy gives total copper after acid digestion. Combining that value with a peptide concentration from chromatography or amino acid analysis yields the metal-to-peptide ratio.
